Question 3

Throughout the chapter the author mentions that the goal of VR is that it becomes so transparent that the medium disappears. The more transparent the medium, the more real it becomes. The author also refers to the fact that many of the VR systems require the user to wear bulky helmets. With that equipment the VR is not very transparent. Different VR systems, where the user is surrounded by large computer screens makes it much more transparent, but as someone pointed out in class, can the medium ever disappear if the user is always aware that they are stepping or plugging in to the medium?

Remediation

Since I was a young child I remember playing games with my sister and cousins. We would spend hours playing Sorry and Monopoly. It wasn't long after I received Nintendo for Christmas, that the board games were left in the closet. We were soon spending more and more hours trying to beat Mario. Since my childhood days of playing Nintendo games have continued to evolve. From the 8-bit Nintendo to playing games in HD on PlayStation 3. You can now compete with your friends across the world by playing online.

Mark's Bio

Hey, my name is Mark, I am a political science major and I am pretty boring. I'm 22 years old; I'm from Ingleside, about 3 hours north of Champaign. I love music, unfortunately I can't play any instruments, but I love listening and going to concerts. I like many different genres; some of my favorites are classic rock, reggae/dub, punk, rap and hip-hop, indie, screamo and some metal. Some of my favorite artists are Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Bob Marley, Sublime, Pepper, NOFX, Mad Caddies, Living Legends, Sage Francis, Atmosphere, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Decemberists, From Autumn To Ashes, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, The Devil Wears Prada and August Burns Red. I also love watching movies of all genres; my favorites are Resevoir Dogs, True Romance, Pulp Fiction, Boondock Saints, Green Street Hooligans and Grandma’s Boy.

Unfortunately my favorite things to do on the Internet are almost all counterproductive, at least as far as school is concerned. I have a healthy obsession with my iPhone, I spend a lot of time reading about new applications as well as new hacks and modifications. I like to keep track of what is going on with my favorite bands. I waste a lot of time playing games that I believe were made for children. Almost everyday I check craigslist for free stuff, just to make sure there is nothing good. I also have a facebook and myspace account, although I don't spend very much time on them. Last, but not least, the only remotely productive thing I do on the Internet is check the news on the BBC and CNN.
