Q. This is the second time I've read this for class and the first time I've been able to really understand what Hampe is talking about. Think about your understanding and experience making film (or if you haven't worked with film think about the past projects we've done for this class). How do you understand what Hampe is saying?
A. One thing that I definitely learned while doing the audio project is that no matter how much stuff you get recorded, it really doesn't matter. You can have a million different great ideas, but unless you can edit and arrange that material into a good piece effectively, your ideas are meaningless to the viewer/listener. My best interpretation of the Hampe piece is just that you can't just rely on hours of video to make a good documentary, you have to have the patience and creativity in the editing process to make sure those hours of video translate into an honest, interesting and captivating film.
