Sequential Art Project

The week that the sequential art project was assigned I had spent the whole week anticipating my trip home for the weekend. I live about 3 hours away, so not that far, but it was my first time back home this semester. I was also excited to get home for the weekend because over the past couple winters, since I have been 21, my dad and I have taken a walk across the lake/ice to our local dive bar for a couple drinks. We hadn’t gotten a chance to do it yet this year and it was the perfect time to do it because the majority of the snow had melted so it would make for a nice easy walk. I was also just excited to get my mind off of school. As soon as we head out for our walk I started thinking that a lot of people don’t live very close to lakes and may not have the opportunity to do something like that. I pulled out my cell phone and decided I was going to document the trip across the ice. As soon as we got onto the ice the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day. It had just snowed about a quarter inch the night before so we were just about the first people to get out there. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to take 20 pictures, but I immediately started seeing different things that I thought were pretty cool. One of the first pictures I took was of some rabbit tracks across the snow. I was really surprised by some of the features that we could see under the ice. As we got closer to the middle of the lake I got a picture of a crack that looked like it ran across the entire lake. As we were walking a snowmobiler passed us. I took a picture of his track because I thought it was kind of symbolic; first the rabbit, then us, then the machine. We got to one of our favorite local dive bars where we enjoyed a couple beverages. Every time I took a picture I kept thinking of my classmates stencil, the flip-flops that said unwind; some people unwind and relax by spending a day at the beach, but for me a day on the snowy ice was just what I needed. I took a picture of the sun on the way there and on the way back because I thought it would be cool to see how much it went down during our trip. On the way back you always feel a little more confident than the way there, since you obviously make it. So on the way back I spent a little more time enjoying myself. Got in my first snow angel, I can’t even remember the last time I did that. I tried writing WAM in the snow but I slipped and fell down on top of it, so my dad assisted me with that. I was pretty pleased with my pictures, at first I didn’t really know what to photograph, and in the end it all just came together.
